Charlie has a gift for summarizing what many or most of us are thinking and feeling: helps us remember we're in this together no matter how cut off some of us are from just plain old conversation. I went through the exact same sequence about lambda (not on twitter) but am keeping an eye out just in case. At the same time, current news is helping me remember to be in solidarity with parents, teachers and kids (saw two kids today outdoors at our Japanese Garden dutifully and probably unnecessarily masked: that's their lives now and for the next few+ months.)
My impression is that there are too many headlines aimed at castigating the unvaccinated regions of the country. I guess that my schadenfreude and the futile thoughts that "maybe my conservative friends will see this and change their minds about everything" are a good personal target for transforming into kinder and more serene thinking patterns.
As for delta, as someone who really wants to avoid even a breakthrough case (2-3 weeks stuck at home maybe?) I'm back to where I was last year as the first cases started rising in my area: what's actually being measured, and is there some kind of unknown multiplier.
Love the honesty of Galaxy Brain. Eventually I'll write about something I'm trying to figure out around the connection between mental wellbeing & what I call micro-iterative news consumption.
In summary, I'm pondering whether my abandoning of Twitter & traditional media *caused* the improvement I'm enjoying in my mental health or happened *because* of it.
My persistent theory is that if one suffers from constant low level underlying anxiety there is a tendency to feed it. Fresh alarming information feeds the hunger & neurosis. Breaking that loop feels really good. Or is it just that I broke the loop because I began feeling really good haha!

Unless you have unvaccinated children and school is about to start. Then maybe keep scrolling and cancel that vacation?
